I write this under pitch black surroundings... Equipped with my digits, Pioneer headphones on and ears filled with whatever my iTunes library (set to shuffle) chooses to surprise me with. I'm going to use this Blog as a platform to share the tracks that have chiseled me into the adult I am now. I will be brutally honest without a care. I'm going to blow the dust off songs of past and attempt to discover new (to me) tracks each and every single day. It never gets old...
I grew up around music. My aunt sang with bands and artists some people dream of meeting. As a toddler, I would run around tour buses, bang on drums, hide in different places back stage. As a teenager, I was able to truly blossom and spread my ears across many different genres most wouldn't expect at my age. Because I lacked the ability to play an instrument, I studied it, dissected it, allowed myself to bathe in it. Acquiring such an ear allowed me to be published in a local entertainment paper unedited and unshackled. I was able to allow my mind to speak freely...
So as I embark on 32, I reflect on times where I would bash my elders, ESPECIALLY my mother, for her torturing me with her ear candy. I never thought that I would be that "fossil" I always made fun of. And as I Listen to songs I loved in my adolescence, I find myself listening tracks I loved back then and fall in love all over again. Songs that are considered "old"
What is "old" in terms of music? Plenty of "old-er" artists, bands, DJ, musicians still manage to retain loyal fan-bases that fuel them to continue on whether it's in the studio or on the road. I remember when a hit single would be a hit for YEARS. Shoot, nowadays we're now lucky if a single can make it beyond a season?!?!?!
