In my [short] three decades of existence, I've witnessed EDM evolve from Funk and Disco's exit to 80's-90's "Classic Dance/House" and Industrial to Techno, Trance, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Breakbeats, Happy Hardcore, Trip Hop, Rave, Hard House to Club Hits, Electronica, Female/Male vocals to now: DubStep... BroStep... Minimal House (some of the worst shit I've ever heard), Progressive House.... Deep House... Trance being an "underground" phenomena... Crossover House (Thanks to Cascada and Ellie Goulding)... Pop House... Seasons of fame... Names...
Names...
Names...
Names...
Names...
...I can admit to being a fan of quite a few of those "names": Calvin Harris, [DJ] Tiesto, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Richard "Humpty" Vission, Pendulum (From which two members defected to now be known as Knife Party)...
EDM is a household name, the "Go-To" sound, THE genre everybody must know and love. It's given way to a barrage of "Pop" stars that have stolen UMF's (aka Ultra Music Festival) main stage to expand the world renowned Miami, FL massive that thousands of people from around the world would travel to only to commercially advertise and expand to three days, water it down, inflate ticket prices and clone itself in other countries simply sell out to the "masses": The Under 21ers...
Children...
It's main stage was reserved for those who earned the spotlight and made Ultra THE brand for EDM. It even knocked Techno (Artists such as Faithless, Aphex Twin, Prodigy, Crystal Method, The Chemical Brothers, Orbital, etc...), Trance (Paul Oakenfold, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, etc...) and earlier house (Kaskade, ATB, Deep Dish, Donald Glaude, George Acosta, DJ Skribble, Bad Boy Bill, etc...) It's record label even had a streak for dropping the hits until Ministry of Sound crossed the pond, kick the door open and release its "Annual" series. All that remains of what was once THE massive to be at in the US is Carl Cox's tent...

The nostalgia is gone. The franchise has been sold to the highest bidder. Dregs of memories linger on...
Skrillex, Hardwell, Madeon, Zedd (IMO, the ONLY consistent artist out of the lot), Porter Robinson, Seven Lions, Steve Aoki, Nervo, Krewella- ALL younger artists who are given VIP red carpet treatment as YouTube live stream them posted up on Ultra's main stage. Looks more like an MTV Spring Break televised circus while the real talent is sprinkled throughout the grounds...

Sad...
I feel like I am witnessing the fall of one of the greatest and longest running genres of music. Ska, NuMetal, Punk and others ushered their doom when they went commercial. Soon it'll all sound the same... It snuffs talent. Stifles creativity...
