For years, I've suffered sadness and grief from unexpected the loss of both my Aunt Net and Uncle Joe. I considered them as [paternal] grandparents for I have faint memories of my father's mother and recall meeting his father only once. I was actually blessed to get to know these two loving individuals who left quite the impression given our brief time together. Aunt Net and Uncle Joe cared for me and my sister as my mother was away serving a TDY in Texas. My sister and I were relocated to Laurens, South Carolina for a few months and even attended church and school while waiting for our mother to return. It was a memorable experience I will cherish until the day I die...
Little over a week ago, I had the scare of my life: the possibility of losing my mother. Her very sister and her bringing me along to her shows when she was in town are a big part of my love of music. If I lost her, I would lose myself- especially after what I just divulged in the admission above. My mother suffered coronary complications which prompted my sister and I to race to Baltimore to be with her in the CICU...
One of the afternoons of my stay, I met a real life Rocket Scientist who now devotes his time with his love: making music. He's a jazz musician who has made music with my mother's boyfriend who is also a jazz musician and had befriended my mother. We exchanged introductions and quickly blocked everybody else out as we engaged in thought provoking conversation. I was even put on the spot to judge one of his songs because he was informed of my lack of restraint when it involved my opinion of a song. Headphones were on my head with the volume turned up. After biting my tongue through 10 seconds of what I consider to be chaos (When music is off so bad it makes me cringe), I fought through another 8 before feeling like the harmony took me by the hand and carried me through the rest of the song. I even remember feeling a reprimanding stare. Ha! To be truthful, the song wasn't half bad and I wouldn't mind having it added to my collection. It was that good!
His parting words to me read me like a book: "I know what type of woman you are! You're a woman who doesn't like to waste her time with foreplay, you just want to get to the point." Damn, was he ON POINT! Truth.
